MQM without Altaf ruled out

KARACH: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) member and former legislator Haider Abbas Rizvi said yesterday that people thinking of the MQM without the leader, Altaf Hussain, were living in a fool’s paradise. He told a workers’ meeting that leaders, activists and supporters of the party had full faith in Hussain’s leadership. Rizvi said they had neither accepted the minus-Altaf formula in the past nor would they accept it now and that the MQM had adopted a constitutional course to improve the situation.

Move to seek drone expertise

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan will formally request the US to transfer drone technology as part of efforts to end the stalemate over the CIA-led campaign in Pakistan’s tribal areas. A senior official engaged with the US on the subject, said that preliminary discussions to find alternatives to drone use had started. He said that the premier’s National Security and Foreign Affairs Adviser Sartaj Aziz and US Secretary of State John Kerry discussed the proposal on the sidelines of the Asean Regional Forum in Brunei.

Singer comes third in contest

PESHAWAR: A singer, songwriter and guitarist from Peshawar has won the third position in the recent US-based International Songwriting Competition for 2012 which attracted more than 20,000 participants from 119 countries. Jehangir Aziz Hayat won the third place in the competitive adult contemporary category for his song What Makes Me Happy.

12 killed in road mishap  

Islamabad: At least 12 people, including four children, were killed and 27 injured when a passenger bus overturned on Indus Highway in southern Pakistan yesterday. Police said that the incident took place near Bhan Saeedabad. The bus was going to Karachi from Shahdadkot.
