Boxing: Qatar Thulasi qualifies for Rio Olympics

Qatar’s Thulasi Tharumalingam (right) in action against Carlos Aquino of Argentina in the semi-final of the APB/WSB Olympic Qualification Event in Vargas, Venezuela on Thursday night. Thulasi delivering one of his best performances of the year at just the right time to defeat Carlos in the light welterweight 64kg and set up a gold medal match with Armenia’s Hovhannes Bachkov. Thulasi also secured Olympic qualification for the Games in Rio.

Thulasi is  congratulated by Qatar Boxing Federation President Yousuf Ali Al Kazim. Thulasi is the second boxer from Qatar who will compete in Rio Olympics.  Last month, Hakan Erseker made history by becoming the first Qatari boxer to qualify for the Olympics at the AIBA World Olympic qualification event that concluded in Baku, Azerbaijan.
