Doha, Qatar: The Ministry of Education and Higher Education, represented by its Higher Education Affairs Sector, organised an introductory session for talented students interested in joining the Sports Track under the Government Scholarship Programme.
The event was attended by students and their parents, with the participation of relevant stakeholders and in coordination with the Ministry of Sports and Youth.
The session was held as part of the Ministry’s efforts to support and attract national sporting talent and enable students to combine university education with the continued development of their athletic abilities. The initiative aims to prepare academically and athletically qualified national talents capable of representing the State of Qatar and contributing to the country’s national development goals.
During the session, officials presented the objectives of the Sports Track, which is built around athletic talent-based scholarships. The programme enables students to enrol in various academic disciplines at higher education institutions across Qatar within a supportive educational environment that allows them to continue pursuing their sporting careers alongside their university studies.
The session also outlined the eligibility requirements for joining the Sports Track. These include obtaining a nomination from the Ministry of Sports and Youth and the Qatar Olympic Committee, meeting the general requirements of the Government Scholarship Program, securing an unconditional admission offer from one of the universities included in the Internal Scholarship Program, and committing to continue on a professional sports pathway throughout the duration of university studies.
Participants were also briefed on the application process and the benefits offered under the program. These include covering tuition fees for students enrolled in private universities, subject to approved regulations, coordinating with relevant sports organizations, and providing employment-linked scholarship opportunities in accordance with established policies and procedures, thereby enhancing graduates’ readiness to enter the labour market.
The Ministry also presented the application timeline, explaining that applications for the Sports Track during the second admission period for public universities will be accepted through the Government Scholarship Platform from November 15 to December 30, 2026.
The session also addressed questions from students and parents and provided a comprehensive explanation of the application procedures and how to benefit from the program.
The launch of the Sports Track reflects its commitment to investing in promising national talent and strengthening integration between the education and sports sectors. The initiative aims to develop a generation that excels both academically and athletically while supporting Qatar’s comprehensive development journey.
