Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, President of the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) honoured the Qatari national para-athletics team who participated in the 2017 World Para-Athletics Championships held in London recently.  Qatar claimed two medals at the championship.
Abdulrahman Abdulqader won a the gold medal in the Men’s Shot Put (F34) event while Sarah Masoud claimed the silver medal in the Women’s Shot Put (F33) during the championships to make Qatar’s presence felt. The other athletes who were honoured included Hamad Jaber Al Behaih, Saud Al Sulaiti, Khalifa Al Dosari and Abdullah Al Manai who participated in the 2017 Special Olympics World Winter Games held in Austria.
During the ceremony, Sheikh Joaan extended his thanks and appreciation to the paralympians, expressing his pride at what was achieved at the last world Para-Athletics championships held in London and at the events before such as the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games and stressed that these achievements are a continuation for the series of successes made by the Qatari sport.
“We in the state of Qatar pay a profound attention to the Paralympic sports and in light of the directives of the Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, we  are committee to provide all the required support to the Paralympic sports. We believe in the importance of this category as it demonstrate the spirit of determination and challenge, so we are looking forward for more achievements by this category in line with the QOC’s strategy and the ambitions of the Qatar sports community,” Sheikh Joaan said.
The felicitation ceremony was attended by Jassim Al Buainain, Vice-President of the Qatar Paralympic Committee (QPC), Dr. Hassan Al Ansari, Secretary General of the QPC, Abdulqader Al Mutawaa, Assistant Secretary General of the QPC and Ameer Al Mullah, Executive Director of the QPC in addition to the Directors of the QOC Departments.
