Tehran: Iran announced today the launch of its satellite "Khayyam" via a Russian Soyuz rocket into orbit from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan.

Iran's IRNA mentioned that the 600 kilograms satellite was launched to gather information on the environment, agriculture, water sources, and natural disasters.


The Iranian Minister of Information and Communications Technology Issa Zare'pour announced earlier today that the satellite Khayyam will be launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan and will orbit the earth at a distance of 500 kilometers.
