"Spider-Man Brand New Day" tops North American box office for 2nd weekend in a row

Los Angeles: Sony and Marvel's superhero film "Spider-Man Brand New Day" stayed atop the North American box office with 145 million U.S. dollars during its second weekend in theaters, according to data released by measurement firm Rentrak on Sunday.

It's the third-best domestic second weekend ever for a Hollywood title. The film, based on the Marvel Comics character Spider-Man and starring Tom Holland as the titular hero, has grossed 655 million dollars in North America and 1.67 billion million dollars worldwide.

Universal Pictures' epic action film "The Odyssey" remained in second place in its fourth weekend, pulling in 31.5 million dollars at the box office. The film based on Homer's ancient Greek epic poem has now become director Christopher Nolan's highest-grossing movie, earning 461.1 million dollars domestically and 1.1 billion dollars worldwide.

Universal Pictures' romantic comedy "One Night Only," a newcomer to the chart, opened in third place, taking in 5.7 million dollars.
