DOHA: The Minister of State for Interior Affairs H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani, yesterday denied media reports about a conspiracy behind the Villaggio fire, which claimed 19 lives.
In reply to a question by journalists on the sidelines of Milipol 2012 being held at the Doha Exhibition Centre, the Minister said that he was “surprised” by documents published by Alarabia.net suggesting that the Syrian Intelligence Agency was behind the Villaggio fire.
“Everything has been announced about the Villaggio fire with complete transparency. We are surprised to see this report. I was not told about this document by anyone,” said the Minister.
“Everything was announced at the press conference (held on May 28) and details of the fact finding committee were also made public. The fire was not a sabotage, but occurred due to technical fault caused by electrical fault. That’s what the investigations found,” he further explained.
