The Ministry of Economy and Commerce yesterday announced registration of 1,015 new companies in September 2017. Its report, released yesterday on the progress of the business sector in September, said the number of new major business registries were 762, and the new sub-registries were 253.
Limited liability companies accounted for 60 percent of the major business records, while the category of limited liability companies (one proprietorship) came in second with a share of 26 percent. The individual institution came in third with a share of 13 percent.
During September, construction companies topped the list of the most used activities, as 167 commercial records were issued in this field, 108 commercial records for groceries and supplies, 94 commercial records for public goods, and 90 commercial records for restaurants, cafeterias and ice cream shops.
The number of commercial licences issued, modified or renewed during September was 4,368. The number of licences issued by the Ministry was 735, while 507 licenses were amended, and 3,126 commercial licenses were renewed.
The number of closed companies during September was 212, while the percentage of closed companies of the new companies was 21 percent. The number of transactions carried out in the foreign branches of the ministry during last September was 20,859.
In the field of intellectual property rights, the report pointed out that the number of new patent applications reached 48 last September, 129 applications were renewed, 2,544 applications were registered last month and five certificates were issued in the field of authors and copyright.
