DOHA: Several contractors of infrastructure projects are asking the ministry of finance to waive the fines for their delayed projects, a senior official said.
Ali Mohammed Al Duhaimi, the Director of Investigation and Legal Affairs Department at Public Works Authority (Ashghal) said that there was no laxity in imposing fines on companies that failed to deliver projects on schedule, reported Al Sharq.
He said that there were several requests to the claims and compensation committee of the Ministry of Finance from contractors asking to be forgiven from the fines citing that the reasons for the projects delays were beyond their capacities.
He was responding to the Central Municipality Council (CMC) recent recommendations to change part of the laws on delaying projects if it was proved beyond doubt that the delays were beyond the contractors capacities and the delays will not affect the concerned government bodies so that the contractor could be excused from the fine or part of it by decisions from the Ministry of Economy and Commerce and Ministry of Finance.
