ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani is “the most powerful man in an unstable country; Pakistan’s de facto leader (who) controls nuclear weapons and one of the world’s largest standing armies”, said America’s Forbes magazine.

It ranks Kayani 28th on its list of the world’s 71 most powerful people in 2012.

The new ISI chief, Lt-Gen Zaheer-ul-Islam is ranked 52nd on the list.

US President Barack Obama is ranked the world’s most powerful person, for the second year running. The second most powerful person in the world also happens to be the most powerful woman: Angela Merkel, the chancellor of Germany.
