DOHA: Qatar University (QU) students and teaching assistants learned about opportunities to study abroad at an event organised by Qatar University’s Scholarships Office recently.

The ‘Study Abroad Fair’ was aimed at orienting distinguished national students on services and facilities provided by the office for them to pursue studies at top universities around the world. It also highlighted QU’s commitment to contributing to the Qatarisation process.

The exhibition included booths in which representatives from the embassies of the US, Canada, Australia, France and Germany as well as from the British Council and the Universidade de Santiago de Compostela in Spain, provided advice and guidance to the participating students, some of whom are on sponsorship and scholarship from QU.

Also attending the event were QU President Prof Sheikha Abdulla Al Misnad, Vice President and Chief Academic Officer Dr Mazen Hasna, and Scholarships Office Director Cesar Wazen.

In his opening remarks, Dr Hasna said: “As you know, the first and most important pillar of the national vision is the human development pillar, simply because you cannot deliver on the other pillars without having a competent, well educated population.

“Qatar University, like other institutions and organisations in Qatar, is keen to build capacity of well-qualified Qatari professionals in academia and other sectors who can contribute to the university’s progress and that of the wider community.” The Peninsula
