DOHA: The General Retirement and Social Insurance Authority’s (GRSIA) key objective as part of its mission and responsibilities is promoting social insurance and security.
To this end, the Authority conducts many programmes and events.
One of its most importance events this year was hosting the World Social Security Forum 2013 (WSSF) under the patronage of HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
This Forum gave a good opportunity to gain from the best practices of global social security institutions that participated in this international event.
Qatar won ISSA's Medal of Merit at the concluding session of the WSSF.

GRSIA has unveiled its new electronic website for easy-to-access information to keep abreast of the new developments in electronic services and enhance communication with the public by automatically reaching out to users.
The Authority started a number of electronic services for subscribers and employers, retirees and beneficiaries.
The services include retirement accounts and pension calculator, query pension data, monthly subscriptions, the law No. 24 of 2002 on Retirement and Pensions and other relevant laws.
GRSIA received the ISO 27001 Information Security Management Certification as the international standard.
This is globally recognized for managing risks to the security of information and provides a set of standardised requirements for an information security management system (ISMS).
The standard adopts a process approach for establishing, implementing, operating, monitoring, reviewing, maintaining, and improving the ISMS.
GRSIA accomplished various tasks like providing information technology solutions and programmes designed to meet the needs of employers and beneficiaries.
It also achieved a quantum leap in developing the mechanism for action and the quality of services through the use of better systems and technology.
The system of connectivity and data exchange with the employers is considered as the most prominent development in the field of systems and applications.
It is designed to enable employers inside and outside the country to supply and update Qatari employees' data and their monthly contributions through a package of electronic services.
This saves time and effort while accomplishing operations as well as contributes in raising the level of quality and accuracy of the data received by the Commission through this e-service.
GRSIA’s SMS service enhances communication with subscribers, retirees and employers.
This step makes it easy for reviewers and notifies them of the actions taken on their transactions and other related news and updates.
The Actuarial Valuations Project for Civil, Military Pension Funds aims to examine the financial position of the two funds, the revenues and expenses of insurance, and check the adequacy of the financial reserve fund, according to the international standards of financial reporting.
It also studies the changes in the contributions and benefits, the management of investment and the adequacy of laws and regulations and relevant legislation for Pensions Fund.
GRSIA administrates Qatar’s pension system.
It is responsible for providing social protection to retired Qatari nationals and their family members in case of their demise by allocating pensions in accordance to the provisions of the Retirement and Pension Law.
The GRSIA is also raises awareness of the Pension Law in all segments of society.
According to the law, the Qatari pension scheme is open to employees in ministries, agencies, public institutions, joint stock companies and others as determined by a decision of the Council of Ministers.
The GRSIA issues pensions to civilian and military retirees or their eligible beneficiaries in the event of death.
It also manages and invests public funds in an optimal way to achieve the highest possible returns. (QNA)
