Doha: The 45th meeting of the Federation of GCC Chambers of Commerce and Industry began yesterday.
Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim bin Mohammed Al Thani, Head of the federation and Chairman, Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said the GCC is facing challenges, including the decline in the oil prices and political tensions in the region. These challenges call on the GCC states to join forces, especially as government spending is the main contributor to the private sector’s growth and urged the federation to keep working on improving the GCC economic environment and pursue the strategy of turning the private sector into a partner in development. Sheikh Khalifa said GCC economic integration is a must in light of global political and economic developments. He hoped the summit will come out with resolutions that build on the GCC journey towards economic integration and lead to bigger participation by the private sector in development. QNA
