Doha: Qatar Charity (QC) and Qatar Red Crescent (QRC) will implement a project for flood-hit people in Morocco.
It follows an alliance agreement signed between both on November 20 last year, and they are preparing to begin relief for hundreds of families in the Rashidiya region.
The project worth QR200,000 is funded equally by both and supervised by QC as part of their sense of fraternal and humane duty towards the people of Morocco.
Rains in Morocco reached 250mm in a few hours, resulting in unprecedented flooding since the 1960s. Many died, many were missing and hundreds of residential buildings, infrastructure such as bridges and roads and crops damaged and a large number of cattle heads perished.
The project will provide food, blankets, medicines and hygiene items for 120 families in the south of Rachidiya Province such as Tarka Alqadiam, Kalema, Aghbalou Nkerdos, Tdagust, Madgarah and others.
Many targeted families are living in temporary evacuation locations such as youth centres and campuses in the provinces of Klmemiah and Rashidiya.
This is the first project by QC and QRC,
Both will determine their roles and projects in different countries, building their capabilities, particularly in common areas, maximising their role in the mobilising resources, cooperating in programmes and projects to their common objectives, promoting opportunities to spur development in their areas of joint work regionally and internationally, and developing best practices in areas of common interest.
The agreement also provides for annual joint plans.
To ensure the effectiveness and continuity of the alliance, both sides allocate an equal annual amount of QR10,000,000 to provide self-financing for joint projects.
The agreement was signed by QRC Secretary-General Saleh bin Ali Al Mohannadi and QC CEO Yusuf bin Ahmed Al Kuwari.
