DOHA: Vodafone Qatar is bringing to ITU Telecom World 2014 a showcase of how smart mobile solutions in healthcare and energy management helps create the city of the future and makes Qatar National Vision 2030 a reality, connecting every machine to improve lives and businesses.
The city is one where citizens are connected to each other, information and systems. It is underpinned by connectivity. Mobile is driving the vision of the smart city by enabling new developments using latest technology to connect devices, systems and infrastructure to inhabitants.
Vodafone engages with Qatar residents to shape the city of the future. In May 2014, it launched a digital platform to enable citizens to participate in building Qatar into a smart city through a website on www.designyourqatar.qa and their social media #DesignYourQatar, bringing their voice out by helping them dream big and make their mark on the future.
The programme will run for over one year and will be included as part of smart city events. Vodafone launched the Arabic version of its platform, allowing more people to join, interact and engage.
Mahmud Awad, Chief Business Officer, Vodafone Qatar, said: “Vodafone is perfectly placed to contribute to smart cities initiative and standards and bring expertise from the heart of a country that is becoming one of the most connected places in the world. With the advent of smart mobile communications and connected devices, technology is set to revolutionise industries. In healthcare, we are showing the possibilities of the future and new ways of getting access to it.”
Vodafone’s smart technology solutions for diabetes include sensors which can be used by patients to monitor their condition, and access nurses and doctors from homes. The mHealth diabetes solution patient can use sensors to make their measurements available to medical staff and communicate with them easily and remotely, using a smartphone or a tablet. Vodafone is also showcasing a blood pressure monitor and an oxymetre to show how Vodafone M2M services helps capture data from medical devices and improve care and medical device management.
Vodafone is also showing how M2M technology can help drive sustainability through smart energy production
Awad said: “With global energy demand set to double by 2050, concern about climate change and carbon emissions is driving new pressure on the utilities industry. Taking the production of solar energy as an example, Vodafone will showcase how intelligent solar panel management helps improve efficiencies and drive sustainability.”
Today Vodafone offers cloud services for businesses in Qatar with cost-effective solutions to help them operate efficiently. These include security and conferencing suites to help companies work the way they want — inside the office or when employees are on the move locally or internationally.
