Aston Villa's Micah Richards, center, celebrates scoring his side's first goal of the game during their FA Cup, third round soccer match against Wycombe Wanderers at Adams Park, High Wycombe, England, Saturday, Jan. 9, 2016.

LONDON: Aston Villa became the second English Premier League side to fail to beat fourth-tier opposition in the third round of the FA Cup after being held to a 1-1 draw at Wycombe on Saturday.

Villa captain Micah Richards gave his side the lead in the first half but Joe Jacobson leveled for the Chairboys with a 50th minute penalty.

Villa is last in the Premier League standings and the draw means its winless run stretches to 16 matches.

In a competition renowned for lower-ranked teams surprising illustrious opponents, Liverpool drew 2-2 at Exeter on Friday.

Later Saturday, defending champion Arsenal plays Sunderland, Manchester City is at Norwich, Everton hosts fourth-tier Dagenham and Manchester United is at home against third-tier Sheffield United.
