DOHA: Italian architect Stefano Boeri will speak about sustainability and biodiversity in Doha 2030 at Doha Architecture Forum at Msheireb Enrichment Centre tonight at 6pm.
Boeri is in charge as signature architect for Qatar Emiri Naval Forces base for the New Port Project in Al Wakra. He has been practicing contemporary architecture with a focus on Urban Biodiversity and Sustainability on many projects.
His famous Vertical Forest, two sustainable residential towers based on urban biodiversity in Milan, will be completed this year. It consists of two towers of 80 and 110 meters of apartments surrounded by terraces bounded by trees superimposed on each other, according to a plan that allows the growth of trees.
Stefano Boeri will talk about his acupunctural approach to urbanism, as increasing biodiversity in a metropolis today means working by injection, by inserting plant variety, wildlife, culture, within a context that is affected by planning policies and construction strategies of inhabited space.
In his new concept for Doha 2030, accorded to the fourth pillar of Qatar National Vision based on environmental development, Boeri includes new artificial islands as innovative environments that will present different habitats: Mediterranean, desert, tropical, aquatic.
