Doha, Qatar: Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs H E Ghanem bin Shaheen bin Ghanem Al Ghanem, along with Undersecretary of the Ministry, H E Dr. Sheikh Khalid bin Mohammed bin Ghanem Al Thani, crowned the Financial and Administrative Affairs Department team with the cup of the Second Sports Football Championship of the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs for departmental employees.

The crowning took place following the team’s victory in the final match held on Sunday evening, February 8, 2026, at the ministry’s grounds in Abu Hamour.

The title came after a strong and exciting final encounter in which the Financial and Administrative Affairs team defeated the Zakat Affairs Department team, which delivered an outstanding technical performance and finished as runners-up. The match ended with a 2–0 scoreline, in a competitive atmosphere that reflected high sportsmanship and a spirit of brotherly cooperation among the ministry’s staff.

During the award ceremony, the Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs and the Undersecretary honoured the Zakat Affairs Department team in appreciation of its commendable performance and active participation in the championship, emphasising the importance of such sporting activities in strengthening human bonds and fostering teamwork among ministry personnel.

The honouring also included Naseem Healthcare Centre, in recognition of its role in accompanying the players throughout the tournament and providing medical care and first aid, thereby contributing to a safe environment for all participants. The award was received by Wissam Ghassan Diab, Public Relations Manager at the centre.

As part of highlighting the organisational and technical efforts, the championship’s refereeing team was also honoured. The officials included Yousuf Mohammed from the Financial and Administrative Affairs Department; Hussein Al-Sayed from the Engineering Affairs Department and one of the elite referees of the Qatar Football Association; Abdulrahman Rahimi from the Mosques Department. The recognition came in appreciation of their professional management of the matches and their role in ensuring the success of the competition.

Team administrators participating in the championship were also honoured in recognition of their organisational roles and effective contributions that helped ensure the tournament’s success and distinguished outcome.

The Ministry affirmed that organising this championship is part of its commitment to supporting sports and social activities for its employees, enhancing institutional belonging, reinforcing the values of teamwork, and promoting a culture of sport and physical activity as a healthy lifestyle. This aligns with Qatar National Vision 2030, which focuses on building a balanced individual in terms of health and professional development.
