Minister takes part in London Youth Week

London: The Minister of Culture Arts and Heritage  H E Dr Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al Kuwari said that Qatar understands the importance of youth in achieving sustainable development. 

Speaking at the opening of Qatari Youth Week in London, he highlighted the role youth play in and out of Qatar.

The youth week is being held from March 8-10. The event is one of many in the Qatar-UK 2013 programme which takes place over the course of the year. 

The Minister said that such events help enhance cultural communication between the two countries. “An example of these events was the English film week which was held in Qatar 10 days ago.” 

Al Kuwari said that the two countries had the will to make this year reflective of the depth of their cultural and economic relations. They also wanted it to reflect the relationship between the Arab, Islamic culture on one side and the Anglo-Saxon culture on the other. 

The Minister said that the Qatari Youth Week in London will help cultural institutions in Qatar exchange expertise with its English counterparts. 

He thanked his English counterpart for participating in the event, and also thanked Qatar’s Ambassador to the UK Khalid Rashid Al Mansouri and UK Ambassador to Qatar Michael Angus O’Neill for their roles in the events. 

UK Minister for Culture, Communications and Creative Industries Ed Vaizey stressed that the Qatari Youth Week in London will undoubtedly inform the English public on the Qatari culture. On cooperation between the UK and Qatar, Vaizey said that the current event will be followed by many similar ones in other British cities.

Al Mansouri praised highlighted the role culture plays in bringing people together, expressing his pride at contributing to the success of the event in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage. 

The high-level representation in the event, he added, reflects the position Qatar occupies under the wise leadership of the Emir 

H H Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani and the Heir Apparent H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and the support they provide to the youth in the culture and arts field as well as others.
