DOHA: Qatar University (QU) is introducing a new training course in human resources, a first of its kind, developed exclusively for Qatar.
The Associate Certificate in Human Resources Practice, which is being run by the newly-formed Arabian Society for HR Management (ASHRM) in conjunction with HR experts Oxford Strategic Consulting, is tailored to the growing demand for locally-designed professional development programmes.
The first GCC-based HR qualification is aimed at new entrants to the HR profession, as part of a wider capacity-building programme, in line with the National Vision 2030.
Qatar University’s Initiative for Lifelong Learning (QUILL) will run the pilot stage of the certificate which starts this week.
QU’s HR Consultant and ASHRM Honorary Vice-President of the Qatar branch Najat El Mahdy said: “This is the first time that an HR certificate has been developed specifically for the Gulf. Reflecting the culture, heritage and laws of this region, the programme will ensure that young HR professionals will be trained to the highest international standards.”
HR professionals taking part in the programme will attend four classroom sessions a month for between three and six months. They will cover general aspects of HR including employee relations, recruitment and resourcing as well as Gulf-specific issues such as learning about local employment law and putting this into practice, and Islamic and Arab culture.
The flexible, work-oriented curriculum includes verbal assessment and course-work which focuses on practical applications of theory. It is delivered in modules, allowing participants to tailor their learning to their specific career aspirations and their organisation’s needs.
The first stage of the programme, which is open to 10 applicants, will be taught in English. An Arabic programme is planned to launch later in the Fall. Successful graduates of the programme will automatically become associate members of ASHRM. The certificate also includes internationally-transferable credits, 35 credits at level four, and accredited by an official UK awarding body.
Registration for the program is still open. For further details email najat@qu.edu.qa; or call (+974) 4403-3257.
