VANCOUVER: John Tortorella and the Vancouver Canucks kept their cool this time around. Yannick Weber scored the go-ahead goal early in the third period, helping the Canucks snap a four-game skid with a 2-1 win over the Calgary Flames on Saturday night.
It was the first meeting between the teams since a fierce line brawl broke out 2 seconds into a game on January 18 that saw 150 penalty minutes assessed. Tortorella went after Flames coach Bob Hartley by storming Calgary’s locker room during intermission of that game.
Goaltender Ryan Miller made 26 saves as the St Louis Blues beat the Colorado Avalanche in a key matchup between the Central Division rivals. The Blues notched their fourth successive win since Miller was acquired from the Buffalo Sabres to stay second in the Western Conference, and on top in the Central Division.
Ottawa center Mike Hoffman scored his first NHL goal and newly acquired right-winger Ales Hemsky made four assists as the Senators beat the Winnipeg Jets.
Hemsky, acquired at the trade deadline on Wednesday from the Edmonton Oilers, set up two goals in the first period and two more in the second for the Senators (28-25-11).
Right winger Tuomo Ruutu scored the winner with 6:30 remaining in the third period as the New Jersey Devils staved off a Carolina comeback to beat the Hurricanes. The Hurricanes erased a three-goal deficit as defenseman Jay Harrison, left winger Nathan Gerbe and right winger Alex Semin scored to tie it up at 4-4 before Ruutu’s winner.
The Washington Capitals halted a three-game losing skid when they came from behind to beat the Phoenix Coyotes.
Center Joffrey Lupul scored the overtime winner as the Toronto Maple Leafs edged the Philadelphia Flyers at home.

Boston won their fourth successive game as right winger Reilly Smith scored the winner in the seventh round of a shootout as the Bruins twice came from behind to beat the Tampa Bay Lightning.
The Dallas Stars edged the Minnesota Wild thanks to a goal with 4:49 remaining by left winger Erik Cole. On a night when Dallas honored their franchise icon Mike Modano, the Stars got a three-point performance (one goal, two assists) from center Tyler Seguin to end Minnesota’s five-game winning streak.
Center Artem Anisimov scored the only goal of the game in the third period as the Columbus Blue Jackets won on the road against the Nashville Predators.
