Doha is in for a thrilling experience this April as Cirque Éloize, an affiliated company of Cirque du Soleil, performs iD. The mix of circus arts and urban dance is coming to Doha for the first time and is directed by Jeannot Painchaud. iD is a fast-paced blend of hip-hop, street dance and circus arts using an urban backdrop as its tarmac. It will be performed at QNCC from April 2 to 5. Tickets are on sale now,  starting at QR95, available online and in-store at Virgin Megastores.
Canada’s Ambassador to Qatar, Andre Dubois welcomed the show and said:  “Because of the multicultural fabric of Canadian society, Canadian arts and culture incorporates many different influences from all over the world. We are very pleased to welcome Cirque Éloize to Doha and to share this dynamic and modern expression of Canadian culture with all of Qatar.”
A cast of 14 performers and acrobats will entertain the audience with the rock and electronic inspired soundtrack created by composers Jean-Phi Goncalves and Alex McMahon.
Cirque Éloize iD is being presented by Qatar Tourism Authority and brought to Doha by SDI Marketing, which brought Cirque du Soleil’s, Saltimbanco and Dralion to Qatar. Renaissance Doha City Centre Hotel is the official hotel partner.
The show’s director, Jeannot Painchaud, said: “It is with great pleasure that we bring this urban tale, filled with colour, passion and energy, to Doha for the very first time. In keeping with the company’s tradition, with iD we’ve again combined different art forms – this time urban dances – to infuse their energy and edginess to the acrobatic performances. Now imagine two rival gangs, sharing a public place at the heart of a city, and seeking to express their iDentity and inDividuality, and you have iD.”
The set design, illustrations and video projections were created by Robert Massicotte in collaboration with Alexis Laurence. The lighting is by Nicolas Descoteaux. Krzysztof Soroczynski acted as show acrobatic designer and head-trainer. iD also includes an artistic contribution from Mourad Merzouki.
Since the founding of the company in 1993, Cirque Éloize has presented more than 4,000 performances in 440 cities, in some 40 countries around the world.
