New Delhi: Former Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit will take over as the governor of Kerala tomorrow, a close aide said yesterday. Dikshit, who is scheduled to leave for Thiruvananthapuram today, will be accompanied by her family members and a number of former ministerial colleagues like Raj Kumar Chauhan, Ramakant Goswami and others, said the aide. She will replace Nikhil Kumar, a former Delhi Police chief, who has held the post since March 2013.
Two held with 45kg gold in Bengal
Kolkata: Two people were arrested and nearly 45kg of gold worth over Rs12 crore was seized yesterday from West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district, an official said. The seizure was made by officials of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence who intercepted the car in which the duo were travelling in towards Basirhat. The customs department also seized over 600 grammes of gold illegally from a passenger at the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport here.
Writer wins Yale literary prize
Washington: Indian writer Pankaj Mishra is one of the eight writers from seven countries winning a $150,000 Yale University prize each in recognition of their achievements and to support their ongoing work. Mishra, an Indian essayist, memoirist, travel writer and novelist, won the Windham Campbell Literature Prize in non-fiction category, The Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library at Yale announced.
