Minister vows to end red-tapism in private sector

DOHA: The Minister of Labour and Social Affairs said yesterday that red tape in dealing with the private sector will be removed.
Private companies will be given all the incentives they need and all the barriers facing them will be done away with, said H E Dr Abdullah bin Saleh Al Khulaifi.
“The Labour Ministry considers the private sector as a key partner in the country’s development. We look forward to their active cooperation in implementing the provisions of the Labour law.”
The Minister, while opening a Career Fair at Qatar University, said private players held the key to making sure that the level of occupational safety is of the highest standards in the country.
He said the latest amendment to the Labour law making wage protection system (WPS) mandatory whereby all private sector workers must be paid their salaries electronically, aimed at improving the country’s job market.
“We keep upgrading the labour legislation in order to incorporate the necessary changes which become the demand of the day due to social and economic developments taking place in our midst,” the Minister said.
He was addressing Qatar University (QU) students while opening the Fair, ninth of a series being held there in which the private sector is actively participating.
The Minister, who is a former President of Qatar University, cited the example of the above amendment to the labour law approved by the Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and said it aimed at improving the local job market.
For this key amendment, Qatar Central Bank, the Ministry of Finance and Qatar Chamber as well as local banks put in efforts jointly with the Labour Ministry, said the Minister.
The objective of continual upgrade of labour law is to make sure that work environment in the country is suitable and efficient, Qatar News Agency (QNA) reports.
He lauded private companies for taking part in the QU Career Fair and through it trying to woo Qatari youths and offer them jobs.
