Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was admitted to a private nursing home in the city yesterday after she complained of breathing problems, palpitation and body pain.

Banerjee, who was taken to the Belle Vue Clinic shortly after she landed in the city from Delhi, has “low blood pressure and low pulse rate”.

“She needs rest and analgesics... Needs close monitoring,” said a bulletin issued by the clinic. The chief minister was admitted around 4.35pm. “She complained of pain in both shoulder joints, neck and back, mainly over the left Lumbo Sacral region and left knee joint. She also complains of breathing problem and palpitation,” the statement said.

Banerjee was earlier examined by doctors at AIIMS, New Delhi, who advised her to get admitted for observation.

“She underwent tests like MRI,” said a doctor.

“Our chief minister is mentally very down. She also has sustained physical injuries. We have admitted her to the nursing home,” Trinamool Congress secretary general and state Parliamentary Affairs Minister Partha Chatterjee told reporters here.
