DOHA: Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) and Doha Film Institute (DFI) recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to create awareness about the National Programme for Conservation and Energy Efficiency (Tarsheed) through a film-making competition.
It was signed by Engineer Essa bin Hilal Al  Kuwari, President, Kahramaa, and Abdul Azeez Al Khater, CEO, DFI, in the presence of senior functionaries of both organisations.
“The MoU comes within the Tarsheed programme with the aim to disseminate awareness among all sectors.
“The contest is an incentive for youth and film makers. Their creative entries should support the aim of Tarsheed,” said Al Kuwari, adding Kahramaa cooperates with all corporations to disseminate the culture of electricity and water conservation to achieve sustainability of resources.
“We are keen to support leading local initiatives,” said Al Khater, adding that by signing the MoU, film-makers in Qatar will change society’s perception about electricity and water conservation.
The MoU aims at promoting positive values of Tarsheed among residents by involving them into the cause through visual creativity.
Launched in 2012, Tarsheed’s target is to reduce per capita water and electricity consumption by 35 percent and 20 percent, respectively, by 2017.
As part of the MoU, DFI invites entries for short film-making contest under the theme of saving electricity and water. The film should be one to three minutes long.
Entries should be original and DFI has the right to use any in any form of media for creating awareness about rationalisation drive.
Entries should be submitted online at www.dohafilminstitute.com.
Last day of submission is April 14.
