Al Wakrah, Al Shamal reach Qatar Cup semis

Doha, Qatar: Al Wakrah and Al Shamal advanced to the semi-finals of the 13th edition of the Qatar Basketball Cup for the 2025–2026 sports season, after defeating Qatar SC and Al Gharafa respectively in the quarter-final clashes held yesterday.

At Al Gharafa Hall, Al Wakrah beat Qatar SC 86-73, delivering a strong performance from the outset. Al Wakrah dominated the first quarter 28-17, capitalizing on organized offense and tight defense that limited the opponent’s threat. In the second quarter, Al Wakrah maintained its edge 26-22, extending its lead before halftime.

Qatar SC responded in the third quarter with improved play, winning 28-20 to narrow the gap and revive hopes of a comeback. However, Al Wakrah regained control in the fourth and final quarter, sealing it 12-6 to confirm their superiority and secure a semi-final berth.

Individually, Qatar SC's Brendan Daniel Tucker stood out as the game’s top scorer with 33 points.

In the second game, Al Shamal booked its place in the semi-finals with a 99-78 win over Al Gharafa. Al Shamal’s Tyrequanell Crump was the game’s top scorer with 30 points.

Al Arabi will face Al Sadd in a highly anticipated clash tomorrow, at 6:00 PM at Al Gharafa Hall to determine the last semi-finalist, after Al Sadd defeated Al Ahli 78-67.

Attention now turns to the semi-final matches scheduled for Monday at Al Gharafa Hall, where Al Wakrah will meet Al Shamal, while Al Rayyan will face the winner of Al Arabi vs. Al Sadd. The championship final will be held on Thursday, April 16.
