Senior officials at Qatar steel industry took part in an important conference on current trends in the global steel market this week, hosted by the UK Certification Authority for Reinforcing Steel (CARES).
Leading executives from Qatar Steel Co and other major processors in the steel sector attended the ‘Stakeholder Day’ event, held in Doha, which reviewed the latest developments in CARES certification schemes, as well as emerging procurement and building rating system requirements.
CARES specialises in providing certification services for the manufacturers, processors and distributors of reinforcing steel and other constructional steel products. Recent years have seen major shifts in the market entry requirements for steel products used in the construction sector globally. Specific elements of the CARES sustainability scheme’s rating system, includes the importance of Environmental Product Declaration (EPD), as well as carbon footprint reporting and Qatar’s ‘Green Building’ rating mechanism, GSAS - Global Sustainability Assessment System, were among the topics discussed by delegates and the CARES management team.
As well as representatives from Qatar Steel Co, those attending the Stakeholder Day also included, among others, executives from Teyseer Rebar Contractors, Blue Steel Factory, Qatar Reinforcement Company and BRC Weldmesh Bahrain.
CARES, which is based in the UK, operates in 40 countries.
