Doha: Katara Beach witnessed the launch of the Hadaq and Fahah competitions within the ninth edition of the Senyar Festival yesterday, which records the participation of 58 teams and 697 participants, including 64 from the Gulf Cooperation Council countries and 61 from the country’s residents.

At around 7am, the participants went from Katara Beach to Sealine. The competitions will start on today, from 4am to 6:15pm. As for the closure, it will be on Friday at four in the afternoon.

Jihad Al Jaidah, a member of the Organising Committee of the Festival, said that this version had some differences in terms of hunting, calculating points and weight, as in this way the effort and fatigue are reduced on the contestants as well as on the Committee, noting that in previous years the result was calculated based on the largest amount of catch, and some of the participating teams brought in very large quantities of fish, which constitutes a great effort on the captains and the referees, stressing that this method was welcomed by the contestants, and he added.

The total prize for this edition amounted to QR2,200,000 for the first 15 positions, indicating that the cessation of competitions due to the pandemic for a period of three years gave a great incentive to the participants in this edition with greater enthusiasm and vigor.

The Organizing Committee had previously held an informative meeting during which it determined the conditions and criteria to be adopted in the arbitration.
Including that the loader should be made of wood (traditional or advanced) and suitable for sailing and meet safety conditions and navigation devices, and be licensed by government agencies, and each team consists of 8 to 12 people.
