DOHA: A campaign to reach low-income workers in summer with small gestures has been launched by ‘See My Culture’, a local initiative.
The campaign launched on social media a week ago aims at encouraging everyone to have a simple conversation, or provide a bottle of water to low-income workers as it’s a simple thing to make a difference in lives.
Started on Twitter, #WhatIWillDo campaign looks at ways to touch lives of people beyond discussions.
The campaign has published two flyers on ‘Make their day’ and ‘Water saves life.’
It asks people to get ‘100 water bottles and help a 100 people distribute to people you see toiling in the sun.’
“We launched the campaign last week, as we felt we should do something to make people realise besides talking about low-income workers,” said a spokeswoman of See My Culture.
“In hot weather, even if the workers keep water with them, it will be hot, public water too will be the same.
“We bought 100 bottles of cool water and distributed within one hour,” she added.
The campaign also encourages people to start a conversation with any low-income worker they see by saying ‘hello’ and greet where ever they see a low-income worker, ask about their life and family, smile and say ‘please’ and ‘thank you’.
‘See My Culture’ has partnered with ‘JustHere’ an online news and community portal to further expand the campaign.
#WhatIWillDo will go beyond its online campaign and will distribute leaflets urging people to spread some kindness.
“Leaflets will be distributed among people to reach those who are not online often,” said the spokeswoman.
Organisers of the campaign will also partner with restaurants during the holy month of Ramadan and distribute food to low-income workers.
‘See My Culture’ was launched last year to engage the community creatively in a dialogue and bridge the gap between expatriates and nationals.
One of the main goals was to get the community involved in charity work, too.
