DOHA: Sheikh Eid Charitable Association and Mercy Corps have signed a Letter of Understanding to establish a strategic and collaborative relationship with the objective to jointly develop and implement programmes that address the suffering of communities affected by poverty, conflict, and humanitarian crisis around the world.

In addition, this agreement represents an acknowledgment in the power of strategic and operational partnerships to increase the scale, impact and innovation of humanitarian and development initiatives.

Furthermore, both partners recognise a particular value in building alliances between organizations that are rooted largely in Islamic values, heritage, and culture and those that have grown out of a western tradition of international humanitarian aid and development.

As a result of this strategic partnership, both parties will collaborate through joint programming, learning, awareness-raising and policy initiatives. The agreement was signed by the General Manager of Sheikh Eid Charitable Association, Ali Bin Abdullah Al Suwaidi, and Mervyn Lee, Executive Director, Mercy Corps Europe.

General Manager of Sheikh Eid Charitable Association, Ali Bin Abdullah Al Suwaidi said: “This represents a milestone in the efforts of Sheikh Eid Charity to enhance the impact of its programmes and to reach to those most in need whether affected by poverty, conflict or natural disasters. This strategic partnership will allow us to further leverage our resources, innovate in our operations as well share our experiences and learn from our partner.”

Executive Director of Mercy Corps, Mervyn Lee OBE said: “For Mercy Corps this strategic partnership with Sheikh Eid Charitable Association is a welcome and significant opportunity for both organisations to work together to alleviate poverty and suffering. Together we will have an alliance which is greater than the sum of its parts in terms of impact and effectiveness.”
