DOHA: Qatar Red Crescent (QRC) aims at collecting QR45m through its “Merciful Among Themselves” campaign for 57 humanitarian projects to be implemented in 21 countries during and after the holy month of Ramadan.
Qatar Red Crescent dedicated a budget of QR10.5mn for the projects that will be implemented during Ramadan. Part of this budget will be spent on projects in Qatar such as “Mawada”, food parcels, iftar, medical services and lectures, and “This is my wish”, in addition to Eid projects such as providing clothes to needy families. On the other hand, several Ramadan and Eid projects will be implemented in around 14 countries.
Qatar Red Crescent successfully implemented several projects during last year’s QRC Ramadan Campaign. Among these projects were the economic empowerment programs and social projects such as Zakat Al-Fitr, food vouchers, and Iftar that benefited more than 30,000 people.
In addition, more than 39,000 fasting people benefited from the Iftar project throughout the month. During the past year, QRC provided medical services covering the expenses of treatment for around 96 cases. The School Bag project benefited more than 1,500 students. Eid Clothing Project benefited nearly 300 children. 150 students benefited from social projects such as “This is my wish” project and the summit project for honoring distinguished students.
“We do believe that our internal charitable projects are the triggering engine for our work outside,” said QRC Secretary General, Saleh Al Mohannadi.
As for the projects that were implemented outside Qatar last year; more than 53,000 people benefited from Iftar projects, food parcels and Zakat al-Fitr in 16 countries.
More than 105,000 children benefited from QRC’s medical and educational services in several countries. A hundred shallow wells were dug for the benefit of 25,000 people in Nepal. In the area of shelter provision, QRC has built 60 apartment complexes (480 housing units) for 3,000 people in Myanmar.
Al Mohannadi said that this year, through QRC’s campaign “Merciful Among Themselves” and the efforts of philanthropists; QRC is looking forward to helping more people by implementing programs and projects in order to spread social and medical services to more than 84,730 families and children in Qatar during and after Ramadan. In addition, QRC aims at conducting health related lectures and offering medical services and free screening to people after “Tarawih” prayers in 15 mosques.
“We aim at benefiting more than four million people in Asia and Africa through our medical, relief and developmental projects,” said Al Mohannadi.
