Honda recalls 175,000 hybrid vehicles

TOKYO: Automaker Honda said Thursday it was recalling about 175,000 vehicles in Japan due to on-board software problems that resulted in 11 minor accidents.

The flaws could see some hybrid versions of Honda's Fit and Vezel subcompacts suddenly accelerate without warning.

The affected Fit vehicles were made over the past year while the flawed Vezels were built between December last year through June.

The problem has resulted in property damage resulting from unintended acceleration, but there were no reports of injuries, a Tokyo-based company spokesman said.

The affected vehicles are only sold in Japan.

Honda's latest recall comes as other automakers, including rivals Toyota and General Motors, have issued huge callbacks over various problems, dealing a blow to their reputation for quality and safety. (AFP)
