DOHA: The Supreme Education Council (SEC) has clarified that there is no change in working hours of Independent schools in the next academic year which begins in September.
Timing will continue as last year with 50-minute classes, a local Arabic daily reported yesterday, quoting a circular issued by the SEC. There had been reports about plans to change working hours.
All Independent schools had cut their working hours by about one hour during summer following instructions from the SEC.
They will return to normal timings as they re-open after summer holidays in September.
Accreditation renewed
Doha: The Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation — Kahramaa — has added another milestone to its achievements, obtaining the renewed accreditation of TUV SUD ISO 9001:2008 certificate for its Water Projects Department.
The department at the Technical Affairs Directorate was awarded with the ISO:9001/2008 certification in 2011 and the renewed one is valid for three years.
The department has applied quality management system according to ISO 9001:2008 requirements for the management of water, buildings, and public projects prior to the renewal of the certification.
Implementation of quality management system includes study of water projects, developing initial designs, preparing works, technical specifications and implementation of programmes for water projects, and supervision of water projects until delivery to end user.
Iftar for Indian community
Doha: An Iftar meet for the Indian Community will be held at Al Arabi Sports Club in New Salata on Friday.
About 3,000 community members are expected to attend the event being hosted by Sheikh Thani Bin Abdullah Foundation for Humanitarian Services (RAF) in cooperation with Kerala Cultural Centre. The charity has been organising it for five years.
RAF representatives, Ministry of Interior officials and representative of Indian embassy will address in participants, including members of various organizations, businessmen and Indian school officials. Waseem Rizwi, a scholar from Australia, will also attend.
The ministry will hold a programme to raise traffic safety awareness among the Indian community.
Transportation will be available from different parts of Qatar to the venue.
Belarus embassy opens in Doha
Doha: Belarus has opened its embassy in Qatar. It is the 100th foreign mission in Doha. The mission is headed by Charge d’Affaires and Senior Counsellor Vitaly Mirutko.
The mission is temporarily situated at Governor West Bay Suites and Residence, P. O. Box 24966.
