Doha: Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF) has announced the return of the science and technology edutainment reality TV programme, Stars of Science, on MBC4 for a fifth season. It has received an unprecedented number of advance registrations from across the region.

The nine-week series will begin its search for young Arab innovators on Friday, choosing 30 contestants from a casting tour that will take the programme to Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Morocco, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and Lebanon. The live finale will see a total of $600,000 in prize money awarded to the finalists, split between one winner and three runners-up.

During the past five years, the programme, initiated by QF in 2009, has attracted more than 25,000 candidates from 18 countries in the Middle East and Africa, with the aim of discovering and nurturing innovation in science and technology amongst Arab youth.

The past four seasons have been watched by millions of viewers across the region and the programme’s social media community has grown significantly to more than half a million active members.

Stars of Science Season Five will consist of eight prime-time episodes plus the live finale, where the public will be invited to vote alongside the jury.
