Doha: Qatar has called for activating United Nations mechanisms for protecting civilians, setting restrictions against evading punishment and continuing discussions at the General Assembly on a new legal framework.
This came in a speech by Yousuf Sultan Laram, Qatar’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, during an unofficial interactive dialogue at the assembly on international assistance for the protection of civilians.
He said almost 10 years have passed since the adoption of the final declaration of the 2005 summit under which member states reiterated their commitment to the protection of civilians and building societies that are not exposed to crimes of mass atrocities. QNA
