Doha, Qatar: The Ministry of Municipality, represented by the Agricultural Affairs Department, organised an event entitled “Darb wa Athar” (“Path and Legacy”) to mark Arab Agricultural Engineer Day, observed annually on September 9.
The event was attended by Director of the Agricultural Affairs Department Yousef Khalid Al Khalifi, along with a number of the Department’s officials and staff.
The event included a discussion session with Al Khalifi, during which he reflected on his academic and professional journey and highlighted key milestones and experiences that have contributed to the advancement of Qatar’s agricultural sector. The session also covered a number of topics related to professional experience and the sector’s development.
At the conclusion of the event, Director of the Agricultural Affairs Department honoured a number of distinguished agricultural engineers in recognition of their efforts and notable contributions to the agricultural sector. He also expressed his appreciation for their work, stressing the importance of sustaining institutional efforts and fostering a strong spirit of teamwork.
As part of the event, Al Khalifi also honoured Eng. Ibrahim bin Hamad Al Badr in recognition of his distinguished career and contributions to the development of Qatar’s agricultural sector. Eng. Al Badr is among the experienced Qatari agricultural professionals whose expertise has contributed to the country’s agricultural development over the years.
During his career, Eng. Al Badr held a number of positions, including Director of the Agriculture Department at the former Ministry of Industry and Agriculture, as well as the first General Manager of the Qatar Arab Company for Vegetable Production (Qatfa). He represented the State of Qatar at the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) in 1969 and at the Arab Authority for Agricultural Investment and Development in Sudan from 1979 until the early 1990s.
He also participated in a number of Gulf and Arab agricultural exhibitions and events, as well as community outreach and agricultural awareness activities.
His honouring also pays tribute to a generation of Qatari agricultural engineers whose expertise helped lay the foundations for the development of Qatar’s agricultural sector.
