DOHA: The Ministry of Interior’s Internal security Force — Lekhwiya — has taken a major step toward showcasing its strengths as exhibitors from around the world come together at Milipol 2012 parading the latest military equipment.
A vehicle generally used to combat terrorism and transport soldiers is a central attraction at the Lekhwiya pavilion.
“These vehicles arrived only last Thursday as part of a first shipment of the order we have placed with Renault. We have got these vehicles as they are the best in the world and meet our requirements,” Captain Hamad Ghanim Al Kubaisi, Head of Public Relations, Lekhwiya, told The Peninsula.
“Anti terrorism vehicles have been purchased to be prepared to face any situation. We have to be always ready with equipment and training”, he said, explaining why Qatar needs such vehicles.
Lekhwiya’s mobile hospital has also been exhibited at the Milipol 2012 as one of their new initiatives. The mobile hospital inside a bus functions as a proper hospital for one week.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Interior has inked four deals worth QR49m with four companies, said a senior Ministry official.
Brigadier Saud Rashid Al Shafi, Purchasing Manager at Supply Department at the Ministry, who is a member of Milipol Committee, announced the deals at a press conference held on the sidelines of Milipol Qatar.
The ninth edition of the internal security exhibition has attracted 265 companies from 38 countries showcasing their new technologies and defence solutions. Eleven countries are participating at the event for the first time. They are Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Oman, Austria, Brazil, Bulgaria, New Zealand, Norway, Pakistan and South Korea.
Making Qatar’s presence at the exhibition, Multi Services Company Qatar, a semi-government company, is also showcasing its products at Milipol 2012. The company is widely known as a defence contractor for arms, ammunition, weapons and heavy equipment. “We don’t manufacture weapons but buy from other countries and supply to clients. We mostly provide equipment and weapons to the Qatar military and to the Ministry of Interior,” said a representative of the Company.
