DOHA: Qatar Red Crescent (QRC) participated in a four-day regional workshop to examine ways to improve livelihoods in the Middle East and North Africa (Mena).
The ‘Introduction to Livelihood’ was organised by International Federation of Red Cross (IFRC) and Red Crescent at International Humanitarian City, Dubai.
Participants included representatives of Arab national societies from Qatar, Palestine, Syria, Jordan, Iraq, Yemen, Lebanon and Morocco.
The workshop covered What are livelihoods?, How do disasters and conflicts affect livelihoods?, People’s coping strategies, types of livelihoods assistance, What is involved in a livelihoods assessment and analysis? How to target effectively?, Job creation and small entrepreneur interventions, promoting durable solutions through socio-economic empowerment and microfinance interventions, and enhancing the capacity of communities to generate income.
