Doha: The Abdullah bin Hamad Al Attiyah International Foundation for Energy and Sustainable Development has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Japanese Mitsui Co. Ltd. to cooperate in energy and sustainable development research.
The agreement was signed for Al Attiyah Foundation by HE Abdullah bin Hamad Al Attiyah, the founder of 'Al Attiyah International Foundation for Energy and Sustainable Development', and for the Japanese company by Managing Director of Mitsui & Co., Middle East Ltd., Norio Tokuda.
HE Abdullah bin Hamad Al Attiyah said that the Foundation commences its joint cooperation by signing the first partnership agreement with one of the most prestigious companies in the world, adding that this cooperation will be expanded to include a number of other well-known institutions in the energy and sustainable development field.
Through strategic cooperation agreements, the Al Attiyah Foundation will realize its vision in becoming the leading think-tank in the region and one of the leading institutions in the world in the areas of energy and sustainable development, His Excellency said.
He pointed out that Al Attiyah Foundation, a non-profit organization, will look to advise states on how to tackle such critical challenges as energy efficiency, adding that it will work in a broad and diverse framework that includes research, workshops and round tables to find solutions to crises and to look beyond the oil and gas.
HE Al Attiyah said that the agreement signed today will open prospects for joint cooperation between the two parties, pointing to the existence of a long-term friendly relationship between Japan's Mitsui and various Qatari partners at all levels, saying that Al Attiyah Foundation through its partnership with the Mitsui Global Strategic Studies Institute will strengthen this relationship and initiate future projects that will contribute to achieving the desired objectives by conducting studies and research of common interest in energy and sustainable development, as well as exchanging expertise and information related to this field.
Managing Director of Mitsui expressed his pleasure at the partnership with Al Attiyah Foundation, noting that the company has been operating in Qatar since 1979.
Cooperation with Al-Attiyah Foundation will open new horizons for both sides by working together to achieve their goals.
