DOHA: Registration of voters for the fifth Central Municipal Council (CMC) elections begins today. The registration can be made through Metrash2, but the voters should go to the registration booths to collect their IDs after issuance of the final voters’ list.
Voters can find their constituency through the link set up on the official website of the Ministry of Interior by giving their electricity number and the number of the house, area and street.
Chairman of the Supervisory Committee for the elections Brigadier Majid Ibrahim Al Khulaifi urged the citizens to interact positively with the electoral process and be keen to participate in decision-making through the election of a suitable candidate.
The registration booths set up at all 29 constituencies are ready to receive the voters. Volunteers have been selected and given necessary training. Registration forms have been printed and made available to the voters.
Some 1,000 people including volunteers are working to complete the preparations, Qatar News Agency ( QNA) reported.
Meanwhile, At least two incumbent CMC members, Hasan bin Abdurrahim (Al Wakra) and Tariq bin Sayf Al Maliki (Al Jisra) has announced their decision not to fight the forthcoming elections, Al Arab reported.
Only two women candidates are expected to be on the fray this time. Fatima Al Kuwari would challenge the incumbent Sheikha Al Jefairi from the Old Airport constituency.
