DOHA: Aspire Zone Foundation (AZF), the ultimate sporting destination, is hosting a wide range of activities celebrating the second annual National Sport Day.

This year, an array of different sporting activities catering to all fitness levels will be held throughout Aspire Zone tomorrow to help advance the country’s national sports strategy and inspire the community to adopt a healthy lifestyle.

“This year, we can promise everyone a fun National Sport Day, filled with activities that are open to everyone regardless of their age and fitness levels,” said Hamad Buhindi, AZF Public Relations and Media Manager.

“All of AZF’s facilities will be bustling with events whether in the Ladies Sports Club, Aspire Active, Aspire Academy’s outdoor football fields, or Aspire Park. We will also be reviving last year’s ‘A Walk to Remember’ with this year’s ‘A Journey to Remember’ and will be lighting up The Torch-Doha Hotel with help of the participants themselves,” he added.  Several other institutions too have organised several activities for the day.

Ernst & Young

Ernst & Young have ensured that their employees will have the opportunity to be fully involved in the fun and activities by partnering with Qsports Leagues to deliver a tailor-made event for their staff and families.

QSports have worked with Ernst & Young to develop a unique action packed day — with the Al Wakra Sports Stadium playing host to a range of sports and fun activities for their staff.

The day will conclude with the famous Qsports Tug of War competition — an event that always provokes great rivalry and entertainment amongst the staff along with the Ernst & Young Partners playing a friendly football game against the Ernst & Young Soccer Champions. Hiba Abboud, Ernst & Young HR Manager, said: “It is great that we have been able to organise this for our staff. National Sport Day is a unique occasion  and it’s a great chance for our employees to bond and teambuild in a setting away from the work environment.”

Mawashi

Mawashi together with Qatar Charity will launch exciting sports activities for the day. Mawashi’s football team will be playing a friendly tournament against Qatar Charity team as well as Qatar Public Prosecution, and Qatar Airways teams at the Markhiya Sports Club.

Ahmed Nasser Sraiya Al Kaabi, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Mawashi, said: “We at Mawashi are keen to take part in key activities for this wonderful occasion, following the vision of the Heir Apparent H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani in order to build a nation that encourages sports. Our participation at National Sport Day strongly reinforces our commitment to the welfare and well-being of our community.”

ADLQ

Anti-Doping Laboratory Qatar (ADLQ)  has prepared so many activities to entertain the different age groups of the crowd in Katara.

The activities will include football scoring goals and colouring and drawing competitions for the younger ones.

There will also be a BMI competition where measurements of the participants will be taken on the day and after three months to compare results of weight, water retention and fat versus muscles.

ADLQ staff and families will go through a simple programme of exercise and competition and will be participating in the colouring and football competitions.

Injaz

Injaz Qatar has entered into an exclusive partnership with Qatar Olympic Committee’s Schools Olympic Programme on the occasion.

Aysha Al Mudahka, Executive Director, Injaz Qatar, said: “We are honoured to partner with Qatar Olympic Committee through the Schools Olympic Programme for this year’s National Sport Day. The event serves as a platform to showcase the outstanding entrepreneurial skills of students enrolled in our company programme and to share various innovative business games and sports-themed activities developed by Injaz Qatar.”

Injaz Qatar is expected to organise two distinct events as part of the activities on the Corniche. Injaz’s Business and Sports Games Fair, which will take place between Tuesday and Thursday, is expected to feature a variety of stimulating and active business and sports games on a daily basis.

DFI and Katara

To celebrate the day, Katara Cultural Village and Doha Film Institute (DFI) will present a free screening of two compelling sports documentaries, which had their Mena premieres at Doha Tribeca Film Festival (DTFF) 2012 at Katara DFI Cinema.

The screenings will include, the documentary Town of Runners, which focuses on two championship hopefuls in long-distance running, who move away from their small hometown in the Ethiopian highlands in their quest for Olympic gold.

The second film, Venus and Serena, uncovers the fascinating lives of Venus and Serena Williams, two of the greatest tennis players the world has ever known.

The screenings are free to the public with limited capacity, on a first-come first-serve basis, so don’t miss out and join Katara and DFI in their support for the  National Sports Day. Town of Runners will be screened at 4pm followed by Venus and Serena at 6pm.

QFIB

Qatar First Investment Bank (QFIB), Qatar’s first independent Shariah-compliant bank authorised by the QFC Regulatory Authority, organised a month-long corporate wellness programme for its employees.

The programme was launched to encourage employees to embrace a healthy and active lifestyle in the spirit of the Qatar National Sport Day.

A professional fitness consultancy firm was engaged by QFIB to develop a tailor-made wellness programme which comprised a series of activities including a weight loss challenge, a weekly outdoor fitness activity and nutritional and health awareness seminar.

Encouraging a commitment to health and sports among employees, Emad Mansour, CEO, QFIB, said: “We join the nation in celebrating the annual Qatar National Sport Day as well as the conclusion of our Corporate Wellness Programme. The concept of National Sport Day inspired us to develop our internal Corporate Wellness Programme.

“The aim of this month-long initiative was to encourage our employees to adopt a healthy lifestyle that combines a balanced diet and regular exercise. Studies have proven that regular physical activity can increase motivation and improve productivity.”

To mark the day, QFIB will host an outdoor family event that will involve a series of sports activities including a mini-Olympics, fitness challenge competitions, and leisure games.

Qtel

Qtel will host several events  at the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) Park tomorrow, as the country joins together to celebrate National Sport Day.

Team and individual sport events are being organised on the MIA Park for the event, which will take place from 9am to 6pm and is free-of-charge for entry. There will be a special VIP opening at 10am.

Fatima Al Kuwari, Director of Public Relations at Qtel, said: “We have brought together an incredible selection of sports in the MIA Park, so that people can take part in the sport that suits them best. We would like to thank Qatar Museums Authority for their support and we hope to see a big turn-out from the community on Tuesday.”

Among the events featured for the day will be an incredible range of sports, from the traditional — such as football and volleyball — to the more creative for younger people, including games of Giant Bowling, Giant Baseball and a unique game of American football.

Qatar Children’s Museum will organise a range of energetic and entertaining children’s activities throughout the day in the special ‘Kid’s Area.’
