Doha: The Chairman of International Council of Museums-Arab Countries Alliance, Sheikh Hassan bin Mohammed Al Thani, yesterday denounced terrorist attack on Museum of Islamic Arts and Egyptian National Library and Archives. He said the alliance was following developments as part of international efforts to refurbish the museums.
HE said the alliance will be briefed by Unesco on the result of their examination of the site.
Sheikh Hassan called on Arab and international countries to participate in restoration work.
He said the alliance will put the issue for its upcoming meeting, particularly how best it can protect museums in the Arab world.
The Egyptian Minister of State for Antiquities, Mohammed Ibrahim, said 74 artworks were smashed and 26 disintegrated.
A coin dating back to the year 77 in the Hijra calendar was lost, Ibrahim said adding some 1,306 artworks of 1,471 in the museum are unharmed. QNA
