Mumbai: A month after it was inaugurated by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, the Terminal 2 of Chhhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (CSIA) here will commence operations from tomorrow. The first incoming flight to T-2 will be an Air India Singapore-Mumbai service tomorrow afternoon, while the first departure will be a Jet Airways Mumbai-London Heathrow, a GVK-Mumbai International Airport Ltd. (MIAL) spokesperson said. All international flights’ departure before 1pm will be from the existing old terminal and all departures after 1pm will be operated from the new terminal, the spokesperson said. Similarly, all incoming flights before noon would be from the old terminal and all arrivals after noon will be from T-2. In addition to experiencing the new T-2, all international passengers arriving at the CSIA would drive on the new Sahar Elevated Access Road (SEAR) at Level 4, a new dedicated road for all private vehicles, cabs and special coaches. The new SEAR offers seamless and signal-free connectivity from Western Express Highway, cutting the travel time by around 30 minutes.
Haj quota for 2014 fixed at 136,000
Riyadh: Saudi Arabia has said the quota of Indian pilgrims for Haj 2014 has been fixed at 136,000 which remains unchanged from the previous year, due to an ongoing expansion work at the grand mosque in Makkah, the Arab News reported yesterday. Haj Minister Bandar Hajjar told an Indian delegation led by Minister of State for External Affairs E Ahamed that 136,000 Indian pilgrims will be allowed to perform Haj this year. India’s actual agreement in 2013 was on a quota of 170,025 that was later reduced to 136,020. The Indian delegation, which arrived Saturday, also discussed with Saudi authorities the accommodation and transportation arrangements for Indian pilgrims.
Student died of
internal injuries
New Delhi: The Delhi High Court was informed by the city police that 19-year-old Arunachal Pradesh student Nido Tania died because of “serious” internal injuries in the head and the toxicology report came out negative. A division bench of Chief Justice N V Ramana and Justice Rajiv Sahai Endlaw was told by Additional Solicitor General Sidharth Luthra, appearing for Delhi Police, that Tania received serious injuries on his head, lungs and face. “There were nine internal injuries and the nature of external injuries were simple. The injuries in the head led to death. There is no poisoning found in the body,” the ASG said reading out the post mortem report. The bench also asked the central government to come up with draft guidelines for safety of people from the northeast living here and other parts of the country, which can be implemented immediately.
Tejpal’s remand extended
Panaji: A court here yesterday extended Tehelka editor-in-chief Tarun Tejpal’s judicial remand by 14 more days. Tejpal, one of India’s well-known journalists, has already approached the Bombay High Court for bail. He was arrested in November for allegedly sexually assaulting a junior colleague during a conference at a Goa resort in November last year. He has since spent more than two months incarcerated in police as well judicial custody. Tejpal is at present lodged at Sada sub-jail located at Vasco, 35km from here. IANS
