Doha: Mohammed Saeed Haidan, astride Miss Chili, yesterday edged Ghanim Nasser Al Qadi and his ride S I E C Lonnie in a thrilling contest to win the 10th round of the Longines Hathab Qatar Equestrian Tour.
The 32-year-old Qatari rider guided the 15-year-old grey mare in an error-free routine to top the 36-strong field as the duo completed the round in 53.72 seconds at the Longines Outdoor Arena at Al Shaqab.
Miss Chili beat the second-placed Al Qadi and his ride by a mere one tenth of a second as Haidan extended his Medium Tour overall points tally to 253 with his fourth win in the class this season.
Longines Hathab Tour Organising Committee Vice-Chairman Omar Al Mannai and Longines Global Champions Tour President Jan Tops with the podium winners of the Small Tour.
Meanwhile, Al Qadi, who had earlier won the Small Tour Class, took his points tally to 217.
The third spot went to Sheikh Khalifa Al Thani and nine-year-old mare Serendipity in 55.55 secs.
Meanwhile, Al Qadi along with Faleh Suwead Al Ajami and Hussain Saeed Haidan also powered Exxonmobil to Medium Tour team victory with a combined time of 111.08 secs.
Team Alfardan, consisting of Mohammed Saeed Haidan, Mohammed Abdulla Juma and Mohammed Khalifa Albaker, finished second in 114.12.
The third position went to Al Majd, who had the services of Sheikh Khalifa Al Thani, Khalid Ali Al Adba and Hamad Nasser Al Qadi who clocked a time of 114.86.
Earlier, the Ghanim Nasser Al Qadi won the Small Tour round with 14-year-old Quick Step.
Al Qadi and the Nasser Saif Al Kubaisi-owned mare registered 26.62 and 30.00 secs in their two rounds.
Small Tour points leader Sultan Salem Al Naemi was second with Higgs, while Mohammed Nasser Al Qadi led Galwaybay Merbreaker to third-place finish.
Today, the Open Class contest will kick off the proceedings at 2:00pm before the Big Tour competition which starts at 5:30pm.
