BAGHDAD: A car bomb went off this morning in front of a school in the Dibis district northwest of Kirkuk northern Iraq injuring a number of school students and police personnel.
In a separate incident, Iraqi media reported that the Head of the local council of Rotba district Muthana al-Kubaisi died late Sunday of his wounds after he was shot three times by insurgents as he came out of a mosque in the center of the district after evening prayers.
Kubaisi was a candidate for the provincial elections of Anbar province.
Additionally, unidentified gunmen assassinated a shop owner in the Ghazaliya district west of Baghdad late Sunday. The gunmen opened fire inside the shop, killing the man, and then fled, police said.
In another incident, the Baghdad Operations Command has announced that it had thwarted an attempt by detainees in Abu Ghraib Prison to escape. (QNA)
