DOHA: Doha International Airport witnessed a record 2,191,148 passengers this January, a 17.86 percent growth rate compared to January of last year.
The airport recently announced it increased its year on year passenger traffic by 10 percent in 2013, reaffirming its position as a growing international hub registering a year-on-year growth every month since inception.
Cargo traffic also saw a 12.1 percent increase in January. This highlights the enhanced cargo facility and unique transport offering, with the introduction of QR Pharma and QR Fresh – the solutions designed to optimise the transportation of time- and temperature-sensitive goods, including high-value pharmaceutical products and perishables.
Abdulaziz Al Mass, Senior Public Relations and Communications Manager at the airport, said: “The airport is seeing continuous growth as Qatar becomes an important regional and international aviation hub.”
Overall mail traffic increased by 0.21 percent compared to January 2013, with a notable increase in inbound mail. January also saw a 7.39 percent growth in aircraft movements compared to the previous year. The management has taken measures to ensure passenger comfort and convenience, and invested significantly in infrastructure improvements, including additional check-in gates, more aircraft parking bays and expanded terminal facilities to provide passengers with a comfortable, safe and enjoyable travel experience.The Peninsula
