DOHA: HE Assistant Foreign Minister for International Cooperation Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani said that Qatar's foreign policy, under the wise leadership of HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, pursues an open door policy with all and maintains the same distance from all political parties, adding that this makes Qatar a credible mediator.
In an interview published by Qatari Alarab Newspaper today, HE Sheikh Mohammed said the Qatari mediation succeeded in many files in the region, stressing that Qatar does not believe in a military solution or violence in resolving conflicts. Qatar sees that dialogue and peaceful solution are the only approach to settle various issues, he added.
Regarding relations between the GCC members states, he expressed aspirations for further development of the GCC council, adding that Qatar attaches special importance to the GCC system.
On the Qatari-Saudi ties, HE the Assistant Foreign Minister for International Cooperation Affairs described them as deep-rooted and historical, adding that Saudi Arabia's security and stability is very important for Qatar. This is enhanced by the role of the leadership in both countries and their mutual understanding on several files, he said, pointing out that there is a consensus.
HE the Assistant Foreign Minister stressed that Qatar will remain supportive to Saudi Arabia's efforts and policy in dealing with all regional files, adding that Qatar through its relations with all parties in Iraq, Syria and Yemen will be supportive to Saudi Arabia's policy in handling these files.
Talking about the Iranian nuclear issue, he said 'we believe that it is the right of any State to peaceful use of nuclear energy and we hope there is a solution to the Iranian nuclear issue under international control and in accordance with the standards of the International Energy Agency Atomic, while ensuring peace and security in the region".
He stressed that there should be a clear understanding based on mutual respect and an agreement respected by all parties, as well as a mechanism to monitor this agreement.
On the relations with Egypt, HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani voiced the importance of Egypt stability, which is a top priority for all Arab countries and a cornerstone for the region, adding that what is important is to see Egypt a strong and stable country and the Egyptian people live in stability and prosperity.
