DOHA: A fine double by Argentinian striker Jorge Sebastian Saez and a clear hit to the net by Mahir Yusuf Bakur saw Al Wakrah overcome Mesaimeer 3-1 in their Qatar Stars League match played at their home grounds yesterday.
The visitors opened up the scoring when Adama Traore netted the ball in the 21st minute, but Saez netted the equalizer in the 42nd minute. In the second half of the game, Bakur gave their side the much needed lead in the 88th minute with a clear hit and Aaez took the game away from Mesaimeer just two minutes later to bag his second goal of the day.
Meanwhile, Al Khor who ended a three-match losing streak last week, defeating Qatar SC 3-1, are looking to continue their recent good form when they take on Lekhwiya, in round 22 of the QSL.
Khor currently sit 9th in the QSL standings with 25 points from 21 matches. The team is now focused on the last five games, looking to get as many points as possible to improve their position in the league. Jean Fernandes, the head coach of Khor started the press conference by congratulating Al Rayyan on their title victory. “Congratulations to Al Rayyan for winning the league and I think they are a good example for other teams,” said the Frenchman. Meanwhile, El Jaish were boosted with the return of Mohammad Mothnani to team’s training. The influential mid-fielder has been out since the 2-1 away victory over Al Ain in the AFC Champions League.
