Ministries, departments attend emergency mock drill

DOHA: Various ministries and authorities took part in an emergency mock drill conducted by the Permanent Committee for Emergency (PCE) at Mashaf area in Wukair yesterday to assess the preparedness of the different authorities for emergency plan.

Among those that participated in the mock drill were Qatar Armed Forces, Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Municipalities and Urban Planning, Ministry of Labour, Supreme Council of Education, Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya), Qatar Media Foundation, Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa), Qatar Red Crescent (QRC), Public Works Authority (Ashghal), General Directorate of Civil Defence (GDCD), Logistics Department of the Ministry of Interior, Traffic Department and National Command Centre (NCC).

Director General of Public Security and Chairman of the PCE H E Staff Maj Gen Saad bin Jassim Al Khulaifi supervised the drill and followed its operation along with the PCE members in coordination with different departments.

PCE secretary Brig Hamad Al Duhaimi said the Committee represents 22 different authorities in the country and the drill was conducted in collaboration with these authorities. 

The Civil Defence coordinated with Education Ministry in evacuating one of the schools in the area. 

The Chairman of Kahrmaa and member of the PCE Eng. Eissa bin Hilal Al Kuwari said that this exercise was carried out as part of periodical preparedness assessment for the Committee for any emergency situation. 

He said the Committee has separate emergency plans for each type of incidents and emergencies and these exercises evaluate the efficiency of those plans. 

The Kahramaa Chairman added the exercise was made on an imaginary accident related with Kahramaa and it was dealt as per the plan devised for these types of the emergencies. 

The drill started at 4.30am and all the teams moved accordingly as planned ending on the scheduled time.

Hamad Al Duhaimi said more drills would be conducted in the near future and there will be pre-rehearsal before field exercise is carried out to avoid any mistakes in the field drill and it achieve goals.
